A delivery package often exists in several forms: a version meant for reading, files usable by the teams, and supporting documents. A shared title does not tell you whether these elements all correspond to the same state of the work.
KARL Core makes it possible to describe the representations of a precise state and the components associated with them. A company can then distinguish the tracked deliverable, its different forms, and the pieces that make them up. An additional storage copy does not, on its own, create a new business version.
The declared composition answers the question: 'What does this delivery consist of?' The answer covers the declared elements. In the absence of a description, the system indicates that absence; it does not present the package as empty.
The fictional case of Valmont Ingénierie
In the fictional case of Valmont Ingénierie, an engineering firm delivers the file for a water treatment installation. The delivery includes a reading report, sizing tables, and a calculation appendix. During a review, the customer asks whether the appendix being consulted actually belongs to the accepted revision.
The team can consult the declared composition for that revision and retrieve the pieces associated with each of its representations. It avoids reconstructing the delivery from file names or approximate dates.

The limits of the declaration
Declaration remains an essential act. A piece forgotten in this description will not be discovered by simple consultation. The composition gives the known structure of the file; the accuracy of the content and its business validation require their own controls.
